Our most recent Blank Canvas event once again brought architects, interior designers and creative professionals together to create spontaneous, collaborative and inspired works of art in the service of charity. Teams of five to eight people from firms around the city spent the day creating progressive works of art at the General Office Building of the original Rainier brewery (in Seattle's hip Georgetown neighborhood). Each team had one blank canvas and six hours to compose their masterpiece. The day ended with an evening celebration featuring music (spun by DJs Johnny Fever, Keith Chambers and The Great White Hope), libations, light hors d'oeuvres, and a lively auction of the one-of-a-kind paintings. Proceeds from the event went to Art with Heart, a Seattle-based non-profit organization committed to promoting the emotional and mental well-being of youth in crisis through the power of creativity.
About Art With Heart
Art with Heart is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting the emotional and mental well-being of youth in crisis through the power of creativity.
According to the World Health Organization, childhood mental health disorders will be one of the top five preventable causes of death, disease, and disability in children by the year 2020. Art with Heart, a non-profit in Seattle WA, has developed a set of innovative programs and books based on the best practices of art therapy and creative expression to help meet this critical need for emotional and mental health support. Our vision is to reach high-risk children who have little or no control over their life circumstances and have the least access to mental health services. Since its inception in 1996, Art with Heart has served more than 41,000 children in crisis, locally and worldwide. For more information, please visit http://www.artwithheart.org.
About Sabey Corporation
Sabey Corporation is a privately held Northwest company specializing in data center, medical and technology investments and unique real estate redevelopment projects. The Original Rainier Brewery project located in Georgetown is an example of another Sabey specialty: the redevelopment and repurposing of old structures. This designated landmark in the heart of historic Georgetown is a dynamic home to creative businesses including fine arts, graphic design and crafts. Working closely with the community, Sabey has worked to maintain the edgy character of this industrial/creative urban crossroad.
The General Office Building where Blank Canvas will host the event for Art with Heart was originally constructed in 1906 as headquarters for Seattle Brewing & Malting Co., and probably also served as Georgetown’s unofficial town hall since the head of the Brewery was also Georgetown’s mayor. Its distinctive interior with vaulted ceilings and a balcony originally constructed as a gymnasium is landmarked as well.
